Smartphone Nokia 7.1 Plus (Nokia X7) - a worthy novelty

The Nokia brand is perceived by many as a mark of quality and reliability. The successors of the famous brand, the HMD Global company, were tasked with proving their compliance with the established standards with their products.

Reliable brand

All Nokia devices have received the Android Enterprise Recommended mark - this is a guarantee of quality and safety. The devices are tested by Google for compliance with certain requirements.

The first Android smartphones, especially in design, were conservative. The new Nokia 7.1 Plus from the budget line was one of the first models, revolutionary in design and equipment. The device works on the basis of the Android One operating system. Under the name Nokia 7.1 Plus, the gadget will be sold in all countries of the world except China. There it is released under the name Nokia X7. These are exactly the same devices. HMD Global has officially announced the start of smartphone sales in Russia.

Packaging, design

The device is packed in a flat bright box. Consisting of:

  • Charger;
  • USB / USB Type-C cable;
  • a needle for removing a Sim card;
  • headset;
  • Silicone Case.

The gadget is made in two colors: black and white. The Nokia 7.1 Plus is the first smartphone from this brand to feature a bezel-less panel and a Full HD + screen. The elongated shape with narrow frames allows the smartphone to look modern and prestigious. The reason for this is the size of the sides is 18: 9, the display occupies 77.2% of the surface.

At the top of the screen are the usual ones: a light and proximity sensor, a speaker, a front camera, a logo on the right. Unused space at the bottom. At the top is a mini-jack connector, at the bottom: a USB Type-C port and a speaker. On the back, under the two cameras, is a fingerprint sensor conveniently located. There are also Nokia and Nokia One logos and another microphone above the camera window.

On the right side there are power and sound buttons, on the left there is a SIM card slot.

A little about ergonomics

The rounded back panel is made of ceramic, so it feels soft-touch in hand. On the sides, the case is framed by a copper-colored insert. The design of the gadget benefits from bronze inserts around the camera and scanner. The smartphone looks like a large gadget, the body is made from a single piece of 6000 series aluminum alloy. This contributes to reliability under mechanical stress.

All function keys are comfortable to press. Conveniently located scanner for unlocking. The recognition speed is inferior to the flagship models, but this is not essential, the sensor works without errors. For the same purposes, you can use a face image, which requires a front camera and a little lighting.

Advanced display

Even the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco has the classic aspect ratio of 16: 9, and the Nokia 7.1 Plus, thanks to the larger screen, has a 6 ”diagonal and a resolution of 1080x2160 pixels. The display is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 - this super-strong glass is resistant to scratches and shocks.The display is equipped with an IPS matrix, which is distinguished by high-quality color reproduction, high contrast and viewing angles up to 178 degrees, 10 responses. Even at close range, individual pixels are not visible. The absence of an air gap between the sensor and the matrix makes the picture livelier. The image is not distorted when changing the angle of view. The screen has an oleophobic coating. There is no picture color setting.

Convenient functions

The display is equipped with various additional features:

  • automatically turn on the screen when a notification arrives;
  • activation by pressing (double-tap anywhere);
  • night mode (the screen has a yellowish tint to help reduce eye strain);
  • Filtration of blue light for eye protection.

Notifications and the current time are displayed when the gadget is taken in hand - this is a good alternative to Always On technology, which helps to save battery power. Information is clearly visible in sunlight.

Simplicity in the interface

Since 2018, HMD Global will partner with Google, and all smartphones will come with Android One. This means that the gadget can only use the most important applications in the background, saving battery power. This technology allows you to customize the gadget to the needs of the user. The main advantage of the "clean" version of the OS: there is no overload of applications, and this provides good speed and stability.

Protection guarantee

Android One devices are the most secure, with Google's security system scanning 50 billion apps daily to detect malware. Such a gadget will receive updates first. The smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo, with only the camera app, Google Maps and Play Movies among the manufacturer's add-ons. It should be noted that there are few pre-installed applications and a minimum of embellishments.

When testing the gadget, there was a little "thoughtfulness" when starting the setup or turning on the camera. The rest of the work of the device did not cause any complaints. Perhaps customization lovers will not find the smartphone interesting in this regard: there is not even the possibility of changing the order of the navigation keys. The device will appeal to those who are used to using only the necessary functions.

Technical capabilities

The smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 platform with 8 Kryo 260 cores, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal memory. You can insert microSD only into the slot of the second SIM card. Any daily operations: surfing the Internet, videos in Full HD quality, games are executed quickly, without delays. You can keep several applications open at the same time and switch between them without restarting. This is due to the large amount of memory and not "loaded" system. The new Qualcomm chip perfectly shows its "abilities" in games.

Sound quality

It is necessary to focus on the sound of the external speaker - it is excellent: clean and loud (for a smartphone), in headphones it is slightly inferior to competitors, but does not belong to the disadvantages of the device. Wireless headphones support high quality AptX HD and LDAC codecs. 3.5mm headphone jack. Three microphones controlled by Nokia OZO Audio are provided for sound recording.

Return of Zeiss

Another logo, located on the protective glass of the camera, gives confidence in the quality. This is Carl Zeiss, a famous German optics brand. The main camera has a 12MP, f / 1.75 aperture provides high speed shooting, regardless of lighting. Shoots with normal wide angle. The second camera is 13 megapixel with 2x optical zoom. All this makes it possible to get high-quality pictures and videos, as well as create a blur effect in portrait mode.

With the new Pro Camera mode, you can quickly adjust ISO sensitivity, black and white balance, and shutter speed. In the dark, you can use the dual LED flash. A small minus is the lack of optical stabilization, so it is difficult to get a blurry shot in low light. Night mode is automatically activated, but you can also use manual setting.

To do this, with a swipe up, pull the start key and settings on the screen.The snapshot can only be seen after execution. The camera application is its own (Nokia), but the interface is no different from the usual. Switch between photo and video modes by swiping left or right.

In daylight, the pictures are of high quality: natural colors, moderate sharpness. For more detail in the photo, you can use the HDR effect in auto mode (you can activate it forcibly). No focusing notes: the text in the picture is easy to read.

Experimenting enthusiasts will also appreciate the presence of the Bothie function - shooting with the front and main cameras and combining into one picture or video that can be taken in slow motion and fast motion. In the Dual-Sight format, you can broadcast to social networks. Videos can be shot in 4K UHD resolution.

Front 16 megapixel camera, aperture f / 2.0 has the ability to take selfies with the effect of "blurring the background".

Autonomous operation and wireless interfaces

The smartphone is equipped with a 3800 mAh battery with 14.44 Wh. This is the space required for such a large display. Charging is enough for two days, without limiting yourself in anything. Games can drain the battery quickly. To connect the battery, a USB Type-C port is used with a Quick Charge system (5 V, 2 A), which allows you to half-charge the battery in 30 minutes.

Nokia 7.1 Plus is equipped with two nano SIM card slots. One slot can be used for an additional memory card up to 256 kb. High quality signal reception and speech transmission. There is support for LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The smartphone contains an NFC chip, which allows the phone to be used as a payment card or pass.

Additional devices

Among them: a Hall sensor that detects a magnetic field. In a smartphone, you need it:

  • for correct geolocation and quick launch of the GPS navigator;
  • when using a magnetic case that locks the screen when closed and unlocks when opened. The sensor in the gadget reacts to the approach or removal of the magnet. These actions are recorded by the sensor and the corresponding command is executed. There are covers with a window in which some information is displayed, this is also regulated by a sensor.

The magnet in the smartphone has no harmful effect on it.

The next device: a gyroscope, which allows you to react to changes in the angle of inclination of the body. This property is used when determining on the ground. Any turn will receive a "response" on the map: when the position of the body changes, the map will also change. The gyroscope reacts to movements in 3 planes. This device is especially interesting for game lovers. The picture becomes realistic. For example, to make a shot, you need to rotate the gadget, and the camera in the toy will turn itself after it. Auto racing, especially the turns in a virtual car, is especially realistic.
