Alcatel 3X 5058I smartphone - advantages and disadvantages

Alcatel 3X 5058I smartphone - advantages and disadvantages

When choosing a smartphone model, it is very difficult to decide on one phone. The Alcatel brand is quite affordable for the price and represents several popular models.

The average consumer is familiar with the brand's mobile phones, wired phones, mini-automatic telephone exchanges, cordless telephones, etc. Today, Alcatel-branded products are primarily mobile phones, produced by the merger of two companies, French Alcatel-Lucent and Chinese TLC Communication.

This article provides an overview of one of the models from this manufacturer - 3X 5058l. In the rating of high-quality and inexpensive phones, this smartphone does not take the last place, and it is worth taking a closer look at the functionality and other characteristics of the model.

Software

In terms of specifications, the Alcatel 3X supports a quad-core 1.28GHz processor in the form of a MediaTek MT6739 chip. For a more spoiled audience, such a set is rather modest for a mid-range smartphone. Moreover, the smartphone was released in 2018, when in this price segment eight-core smartphones are not so rare.

Camera

  • 13 MP + 5 MP - dual rear camera;
  • 5 megapixel front camera;
  • 120 degree wide angle lens.

The first thing to know about the Alcatel 3X 5058l camera is that the top quality setting uses a little software trick that is best avoided.

The smartphone is equipped with a 13 megapixel main camera and the camera is interpolated to 16 megapixels for better quality images. The front camera is 5 MP and also interpolated to 8 MP.

Interpolation is the use of software enhancements, so these cameras can simulate shooting at a higher resolution.

Camera modes and settings

As with some of the best imaging phones, the dual-lens camera lets you adjust background blur or bokeh effects, and capture wide-angle shots up to 120 degrees. The smartphone is also equipped with electronic image stabilization (EIS) and dual-tone LED flash.

Directly above the phone's screen is a 5-megapixel fixed-focus front camera. This camera is also interpolated to 8MP and this, again, is not impressive, although it has a Face Key facial recognition system.The program is included in the phone security package along with a circular fingerprint scanner located under the rear camera.

Interpolation often results in "fuzzy" photos that don't hold up well when zoomed in, so if you're using this phone make sure to switch to the second setting on both the rear and front cameras.

Switching between wide-angle and standard main camera lens is via tapping the very confusing building and tree building icons in the camera app. Apparently, additional tree means "wide angle".

This is fairly typical of the Alcatel camera app: it's not well designed and takes time to get used to and get used to. You access modes like pan and slide through a button that looks like a four-leaf clover under the viewfinder. Inside this, there is a familiar configuration tool.

There aren't many modes out there, but the four-frame square inside Social mode is likely to be popular with Instagram fans.

The front camera also includes a beauty mode with two sliders. They're tagged with slightly useless graphics - one that kind of blurs the face, and the other that seems to make the skin look more attractive.

The dual-tone flash on the main camera works well for portraits that don't completely blur the subject. At the same time, without a flash, both cameras work in lower lighting, as well as in good lighting indoors.

Among the shortcomings, users note poor focusing, which is often noted in other devices of a similar price category.

Overall, the front and rear cameras work great for a phone at this price point. They are no better and no worse, at the level of models of the same cost.

The resulting photos are good enough for social media and the like, but you probably don't want to print them and hang them on the wall.

Sample pictures

When choosing smartphone users, they are interested in how the phone takes pictures, which pictures are taken during the day and which at night, how the camera takes pictures in natural light, and how indoors.

An example of how to photograph in natural light:

Even in bright sunlight, this flash came out darker than it should have.

Photos with artificial light:

Black cats always turn out well. Alas, most of the fur in the picture is very fuzzy (not literally) and not as fluffy and vibrant as in the original.

The lighter areas are blown out a bit, but the fur and other details stand out well in the darker areas of the photo.

This is the best photo. Some of the images were out of focus and everything was darker than it should have been under bright lights.

The front camera is certainly not the highest level, but the pictures are great.

Memory

Despite its aforementioned rudimentary processor, the Alcatel 3X already has a more respectable 3GB of RAM. The Alcatel 3X has an internal storage of 32GB. There is also a micro-Sd slot for expanding storage up to 128GB.

Design

Alcatel, a simple budget brand, unveiled many new phones at the 2018 international show, including the Alcatel 3, Alcatel 3V, and Alcatel 3X. All models have a screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and an affordable price. The Alcatel 3X is the most expensive of the three.

The smartphone has

  • dimensions: 153.5 x 71.6 x 8.75 mm;
  • rather light weight: 144 g;
  • aspect ratio: 18: 9;
  • HD screen.

This is a really strange phone. The back panel looks cheap and plastic. It has "radial detail" which is similar to the grooves on a vinyl record. These grooves allow for a better grip on the phone, but they definitely make this metal blue phone cheaper.

Display

The front of the phone includes a 5.7-inch 18: 9 IPS screen and a screen-to-body ratio of 78%.

The phone doesn't feel large or heavy when picked up, despite the size of this panel. It can be bright and offers crisp and colorful images from a wide range of viewing angles.

The resolution is 720 x 1440 pixels, which corresponds to approximately 282 pixels per inch. It's low, but true to the price. If image quality is an issue for you, you may prefer to use the Alcatel 3V with 1080 x 2160 resolution instead.

However, you will hardly notice the lower screen quality in remote use. In testing, we found that the videos and games looked great if you did not put the 3X next to something more expensive and of higher quality in terms of the picture on the screen.

Unfortunately, while the screen itself looks good enough, it's not particularly resilient: there is no Gorilla Glass protection, and in testing it managed to do a pretty decent scratch on the display with less than a week of daily use. Not ideal.

Sensors and buttons

Directly under the lens on the back is a fingerprint scanner, which, according to some users, responds to touch a little slower than on other devices, similar in price. Below the sensor is the familiar Alcatel logo.

The rounded right edge houses the volume rocker, while below the textured power key. There is no particular problem in distinguishing them by the feel of using the phone.

There is a dual SIM slot on the left (although the 3X is also available in a single SIM configuration in some markets), there is a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top right, and two speakers above the old-style micro-USB charging port on the bottom edge ...

Battery life

Buying a budget phone does not always mean that the purchase loses in all respects. In the case of the Alcatel 3X, you actually get significantly better battery life than you might expect from a 3,000mAh battery - the phone will last almost all day with moderate use.

As with any phone, the longer the active display and the higher the brightness, the sooner the charge decreases, but due to the lower screen resolution, the 3000 mAh battery can last longer than the performance counterparts.

However, it also charges slowly. Obviously, there is no wireless or fast charging at this price, and users are forced to use the old-fashioned micro-USB charger.

Routine battery check was performed while streaming HD video over Wi-Fi with apps and accounts syncing in the background.

Fully charged at maximum brightness, the Alcatel 3X lost only 15% of its original reading by the end of the 90-minute video. This compares favorably with the competition, with the Moto G6 Play losing 18% in the same test, the Honor 9 Lite 24% and the Sony Xperia XA1 27%.

Summarizing

Advantages:
  • Good equipment at an affordable price;
  • Dual cameras with additional interpolation settings;
  • The battery has a good runtime.
Disadvantages:
  • Not a very powerful processor;
  • The screen is easily scratched;
  • Not high screen resolution;
  • No fast charging function.

The Alcatel 3X 5058I smartphone is a representative of the budget segment, so it will not be suitable for those who have high demands on the device's hardware. Outwardly, the device is quite attractive, it fits comfortably in the hand, and thanks to the matte finish it does not slip.

For its 8,000 rubles, the phone will regularly perform all basic functions as a means of communication, as well as take photos, open access to the Internet world. The only one for whom it will not suit at all is for fans of mobile games. A budget device with its modest data is not intended for this.
