Best 27-inch monitors of 2020

The monitor is one of the most important devices in a personal computer. With its help, users can see the information they need. Choosing the right monitor is essential to ensure that the image is clear and bright in all use cases.

The ideal size is a 27 ”diagonal. Such a monitor is suitable for watching movies, and for graphic processing of photos, as well as for games and much more. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account not only the dimensions of the device, but its resolution. Only taking into account their optimal ratio, the image will delight with its brightness and detail. It is important when choosing a monitor and taking into account such parameters as interface, image refresh rate, matrix, possible settings, as well as device design.

Types of matrixes for monitors

Today monitors by matrix type are grouped into three separate categories:

  • for graphics processing - with GB LED backlighting and wide color gamut;
  • for e-sports - fast TN + Film matrices;
  • universal displays - equipped with IPS and VA panels.

All liquid crystal displays available today display visual information in different quality. LCD monitors are divided into three main types:

  1. Twister Nematic (TN). Monitors with this matrix have the fastest response, so it is recommended to use them for e-sports. The cost of these devices is also pleasing. However, all the advantages of TN end there. Parameters such as viewing angles, color reproduction, contrast and black depth in these displays are very modest. The presence of the designation "+ Film" in the specifications, indicates that the monitor is equipped with an additional layer of film to increase the viewing angles.
  2. MVA / PVA (collectively referred to as VA) are matrices with vertically aligned pixel blocks. VA models are at the forefront of their ability to deliver enhanced black depth, which also delivers high contrast images. The color rendering of these displays is average. The viewing angles of the MVA / PVA are much larger here than in the models made with TN + Film technology. But their response time is much longer. The biggest drawback of VA monitors is the discoloration of dark areas of the image, which increases progressively as the viewing angle changes. Considering all the parameters of such displays in aggregate, we can say that this is an inexpensive and versatile option.
  3. IPS / PLS are planar switching matrices that have the highest horizontal and vertical viewing angles and color rendering. In terms of response speed, they slightly outperform the VA models, while at the same time they are inferior to them in contrast and black depth. It should be noted that the IPS / PLS type displays are excellent at displaying gradients, even in dark colors.

These devices also have significant disadvantages.First of all, this is too high a price, as well as the presence of the Glow effect, that is, at an angle the colors acquire different shades, and from different sides of the screen they are completely different.

The quality of the picture on the screen depends on the bit depth of the matrix, since this indicator characterizes the number of colors that this display is capable of transmitting. The cheapest monitors have a six-bit panel that only outputs 262,000 colors. More expensive models are equipped with 8 bits, which expands the number of tones to 16 million, and devices with 10 bit panels are capable of transmitting a billion different colors.

In some models, the increase in color depth indicators is achieved with the help of ingenious design and technological solutions. An example is the ability to control the frame rate, which is abbreviated as FRC (Frame Rate Control). In this case, they speak of pseudo-bit depth and are designated with the prefix "+ FRC". As a result, the number of colors actually increases, for example, a device labeled "8 bit + FRC" shows images with a depth of 8 bits, but visually they are comparable to a color depth of 10 bits. However, it is worth noting that people with increased visual sensitivity can get tired of additional pixel blinking.

Another way to increase the brightness of colors on the screen is to use a pulse width modulator (PWM). In these models, dimming the brightness results in noticeable flicker, which is not very good for vision.
