Rating of the best moto raincoats for 2020

The key disadvantage of a motorcycle is that in bad weather conditions, the rider will bear all the consequences. Driving in a rainstorm, in particular in autumn or spring, can hardly be attributed to the pleasures of riding a motorcycle.

At the same time, do not forget about the headwind. Ultimately, literally after 5 minutes, all the driver's clothes will be completely wet, and in addition, a cold is guaranteed in the morning.

It is for these reasons that most motorcycle clothing companies produce moto raincoats, and the rating of the best for 2020 is presented in this article.

What is a raincoat?

Based on the name, even a person who is not versed in this subject will say that this type of equipment is necessary to protect the motorcycle driver from rain. But not everyone knows that it also forms an auxiliary protection against wind and dirt.

The waterproof raincoat is worn over motorcycle equipment and forms an additional safety barrier, thus not only protecting the human body from possible hypothermia, but also making it possible to maintain the main layer of equipment.

Types of raincoats

Raincoats for motorcyclists are membrane, regular, one-piece and separate.

Membrane

In general, the membrane is a thin layer of polymers with a large number of small vias.

The number of holes allows them to pass vapor and air molecules, but water droplets, even tiny ones, will not pass. As a result, the membrane is called "breathable" because it releases sweat vapors outside while allowing fresh air to flow to the body.

The advantages of a diaphragm raincoat from the side of convenience are obvious: it is much more pleasant to move around dry, and not wet from the rain or, in the worst case, sweaty through and through.

In addition, membrane moto raincoats are lightweight and small in size when compared with rubber ones. Often they are made in this form to be worn as an ordinary windbreaker or jacket every day.

The membrane moto raincoat guarantees good protection at speeds from 90 to 110 km / h. At higher rates, water droplets are possible. The fact is that at high speed, the water pressure of the raindrops in a collision is higher than the normal pressure of the water column intended for the membrane.

Conventional

They are made so that the material is quite strong and does not allow water to pass through at all. Almost all the time, rubber materials or other similar in quality polymers are used to treat the inner surface of a moto raincoat.

This makes it possible to make a moto raincoat rather thin and lightweight, but at the same time, does not allow water to pass through. The disadvantage of this product is that such materials do not pass not only water, but also air. Simply put, they do not "breathe".

This promises that in the rain, at above-zero temperatures, something like a "bath" appears under the product. At first glance, excellent rain protection, but from a different point of view, the driver sweats, which makes him wet.

Whole

Such products maximally protect the driver from water. They do not blow into the gap between trousers and jacket, but they are more difficult to put on and take off.

Separate

They are distinguished by the best compactness. In addition, they are much more convenient to put on and take off. It is possible, if the need arises, to use exclusively a jacket or only trousers.

Experts recommend buying separate raincoats when the motorcyclist mostly rides short distances. If the driver is a traveler, consider purchasing a one-piece raincoat. Moving for a couple of hours on the highway in the rain, the main thing is that the protection from wind and rain is of the highest quality, since on a long journey you need to rely exclusively on your own equipment.

Which option is better is, undoubtedly, for motorcyclists to decide, but bikers are unanimous that a separate type of raincoat is much more comfortable than a single one, and protects against water and wind in the same way.

Criteria for choosing a raincoat

In order for the raincoat not to be a hindrance while driving and not to interfere with movement, and not yet become a source of discomfort, it is worth following the following criteria during the purchase:

  • Separate or one-piece - this is the decision of a motorcyclist, but experienced drivers prefer separate ones for maximum comfort;
  • The material should not be overly lightweight or overly strong. Overly lightweight material is short-lived under the influence of a headwind flow, and therefore will become an acquisition for one season. At the same time, too strong material makes the equipment heavy and uncomfortable;
  • The jacket or the upper part of a piece suit must necessarily have a large collar "under the throat" and a lightweight hood that is worn under helmet;
  • There should be a flap on the surface of the zipper, which is closed with buttons
  • The mesh lining should be preferred. Although it makes it difficult to put on / take off the equipment, it does better ventilation. With a continuous lining from normal body temperature, the evaporation process will begin very quickly;

  • It is worth giving preference to catchy products: yellow, orange and deep red. Do not forget about the presence of reflective inserts. Since the view is very limited during the rain, they definitely will not interfere;
  • The classic look of trousers to the waist will not be the best choice. If the driver falls into a large puddle or falls, then water will penetrate inside. In this regard, the trousers should reach the middle of the chest section, and the fastener is on the side so that the trousers can be easily removed;
  • At the ends of sleeves, trousers and at the bottom of the jacket, tightening elastic bands must be present. Experts recommend purchasing a raincoat with Velcro straps.

This is a rough list of recommendations on how to choose a quality product that will retain its impeccable look for a couple of seasons. If the budget is too limited, an ordinary OZK will be a good option. It is made for a harsher and more hazardous environment, but it will be uncomfortable to ride in it.

It is also not recommended to buy unknown models from China. The fact is that the fabrics in their products are too light, which is why at a speed of 80 to 100 km / h they will be torn from the wind in about half an hour.
