Review of new products Oppo Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro with pros and cons

There is no stalemate for Chinese brands! Regardless of what is happening in the world, tech giants continue to announce new products that surpass each other in both the beauty of the design and the performance of the chips. Following the powerful smartphones Honor, Xiaomi and others, on June 5, 2020, he presented his own development - the Reno 4 (Pro) sub-flags - the Oppo brand.

Appearance and ergonomics

At first glance, the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro models look absolutely identical, but a closer look reveals details that fundamentally distinguish both versions.

Firstly, the dimensions of a regular Reno 4 model are 159.3 x 74 x 7.8 mm and a weight of 183 g. The dimensions are considerable and this can cause a lot of inconvenience. While there are pluses in the form of a large screen and a beautiful picture, the phone, which is almost 16 cm long and 7.5 cm wide, will have to be firmly held in your hands and cleverly hidden in your pocket. Another thing is Reno 4 Pro. An order of magnitude smaller - 159.6 x 72.5 x 7.6 mm, with a weight of 172 g. The model is easier to grasp and the hand does not get so tired.

When creating the sub-flags, the same materials were used: the body and the screen are covered with tempered glass, the side frames are aluminum. In addition to the expensive and non-marking coating, there is a sixth generation Gorilla Glass protection against cracks.

The design of the new products is prosaic, there are no glare or patterns. In the upper left corner of the back is an oval block of three cameras and a flash. The display in both models is essentially bezel-less, but the Oppo Reno 4 has slight black bars. There is also a front camera. In the regular model it is a capsule (with two sensors), and in the Pro it is spherical.

Also, in both phones, unlocking occurs only through the screen (no sensors and cutouts).

Interesting to know! Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro support NFC (for payment at the checkout / in public transport without a card), but the new products lack a 3.5 mm jack for wired headphones.

Equipment

The filling of the boxes is absolutely identical:

  • USB port;
  • Charging adapter;
  • Clip for SIM cards;
  • Silicone Case.
  • Coupon and other papers;
  • A set of Oppo Bluetooth headphones is available in different versions.

In addition, the Pro version received more varied colors: here and black, white, blue, pink, even green. In the usual model: black, blue, purple. The designers did a good job on the palette, because such a phone will be a great addition to any look.

Display

Fashion is merciless, because it captures so many brands at once! It seemed that only "huge" screens of 5 inches appeared on the market, but now 2020 has come, and now the trend is displays of 6 inches and more.

Sub-flagships Oppo Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro received large screens with dimensions of 6.5 and 6.4 inches, respectively. Due to the small frames, the regular version loses out to the Pro. But they have an equally expensive, vibrant matrix in their arsenal - Amoled. Despite its fragility and short life (up to 3 years), this type of screen is much brighter, richer than IPS and better retains its charge (very important for large displays!). Even with a strong tilt, the picture does not go negative; the black is rich, not gray; also, thanks to the good power, you do not need to twist the brightness 100% in sunny weather.

Screen resolution - 1080 x 2400, with a pixel density of ~ 402-209 ppi. Recall that this ratio is directly related to the clarity of the image (in this case, it is at the level of the Samsung, IPhone luxury).

Other screen features of the Reno 4 Pro version:

  • Screen blinking frequency - 90 GHz. That is, frames from a video / game will smoothly replace each other + support for high quality 1080p and 4K.
  • The maximum brightness is 500 nits (or candelas) according to the advertisements.
  • HDR10 + or High Dynamic Range, which allows the sub-flagship to display more hues and also automatically adjusts contrast / brightness based on the frame.

The Reno 4 has less chips:

  • Screen brightness - 430 nits or candelas.
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 6 special protection against damage.

Thus, the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro are excellent options for watching movies or playing games.

operating system

Oppo Reno 4 Pro

The developers have equipped the phones with a multifunctional Android 10 operating system. In addition to the new possibilities for customizing the space (dark theme, new widgets, changing icons and notification curtains), there are also fundamental changes in system applications. For example:

  • Sound Enhancer or Sound Amplifier (through headphones only). Reduces ambient noise and enhances bass.
  • Free subtitles for any video with Live Caption (also with audio messages that cannot be listened to);
  • A family network, thanks to which parents can filter content for children, regulate the frequency of visiting social networks;
  • Improved account authentication, as well as instant logout from all third-party devices with one click in case of intruders.

It is worth noting that the version released in 2019 has already found stable settings, so there are practically no problems with crashes or errors. Quite often, a new update arrives.

Additional power - the author's shell Color OS 7.2. With it, the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro features "Game Booster" and "Super Battery Saver" (up to 40%). Changes have also been made to the camera, for example, the Night Scene mode has been improved (image brightness is brighter up to 70% of the original). Added video editor "Soloop".

Performance and storage

At the heart of both models is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G gaming chipset. It is based on a 7-nanometer process technology and uses 8 active cores. The maximum clock speed of the Kryo 475 Prime reaches 2.4 GHz (optimal value for running 3D games). Minimum (Kryo 475 Silver) - 1.8 GHz.
Differs from the regular version in the addition to speed up games (G). Has integrated graphics, the latest version of Direct X, for working with large applications, as well as OpenGL and OpenCL functions.

As such, the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro smartphones are definitely the gamers' choice. It combines a stable battery and a powerful processor.

As for memory, the developers provided 3 storage options: 128 GB or 256 GB external, 8 GB or 12 GB internal in the Pro version, and 128 GB or 256 GB external with 8 GB internal memory. Decent figures, with which there is enough space both for photos / documents and for entertainment.

However, the opinions of Internet users are mixed. Many accuse Oppo that the mid-range sub-flagship should have been equipped with at least an 8th generation chipset, as was done in the legendary Huawei Mate 30.

Autonomy

Both phones have a non-removable Li-Po battery with a standard 4000 mAh capacity. If you add to this an energy-saving matrix, Android optimization and Qualcomm's Game Booster, then in total the models can hold out for a whole day without recharging.

Of course, the maximum gameplay time is no more than 10 hours. In standby mode, the operating time reaches 4 days. There is a Fast Charging function at 65 Volts (60% in 15 minutes, 100% in 40 minutes!). That is, there should be no problems with charging.

Camera

Despite the emphasis on the gaming aspect, the developers managed to recreate passable cameras that meet all the needs of the younger generation. Let's start with the regular version of the Oppo Reno 4 5G:

The first camera (wide-angle) - 48 MP, f / 1.8, 26 mm lens. Quite good numbers, and in tandem with improved Android shooting, the camera power will be enough for both portrait and landscape photos, both in the daytime and at night. Noise eliminated, no obvious pixels.

  • The second camera is 8 MP, the aperture is only f / 2.2, ultra-wide, suitable for video in the 9:16 format. In addition, it is capable of shooting in high quality - 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60 frames per second. With stabilization and improved sound.
  • The third camera in the manner of the IPhone for aligning the frame (adds depth) is 2 MP, with an aperture of f / 2.4.
  • Front camera - 32 MP + 2 MP. Video in 1080p quality, which is what you need for Instagram stories or videos on TikTok.

In addition, the set of editing tools has been changed. Users can use modes: bokeh, portrait, fireworks, shutter speed, slow-mo, and others, as well as the effects of b / w, sepia and others. Edit photos and videos in post-production, here: editing frames, an eraser for erasing unnecessary objects, filling.

It would be strange if in the Reno 4 Pro version the values were identical or even lower. Although the front camera cost only one 32MP sensor, here's how things are with the main one:

  • The first lens is 48MP, f / 1.8 aperture and 26mm wide-angle (+ Laser AF). As you can see below, the colors in the photo are natural, there are no pronounced noise:

  • The second lens is 13 MP, 52mm zoom (telephoto) and 2x optical zoom.
  • The third is 12 MP, f / 2.2 aperture, viewing angle 120 degrees. Video can be shot in 4K quality at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60 / 120fps, also with autofocus and stabilization.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:
  • Large screen with good brightness;
  • Many beautiful and versatile colors;
  • Gaming smart processor;
  • Image quality up to 4K;
  • OS Android 10 and constant updates of the author's shell;
  • Expensive, non-marking materials;
  • Fast charging (40 minutes - 100%);
  • Cover and headphones included (additional information when ordering).
  • There is NFC.
Disadvantages:
  • No headphone jack;

Price and results

Let's turn to the real user feedback in the foreign discussion of these smartphones:

They are smartphones with superior performance and looks, and the most powerful and efficient 7 Series mid-range processor.They consume 25% more power than phones with an 865 chip, but 4000 mAh will last the whole day, as well as 4500 mAh for 865. So why compare? Amazing new items for the price!

It is impossible not to agree, because for the price:

  • 380 euros (30 thousand rubles) for Reno 4;
  • 480 euros (40 thousand rubles) for Reno 4 Pro;

the brand offers smooth operation, the latest in the gaming world, good charging, an attractive design and a quality camera. These models are fully consistent with the middle price segment and are suitable for people of all ages and interests.
